Do rfactor headlights give enough light?

I've been trying to drive the rfactor Le Mans 1979 with the Porsche Fabcar through the night. It goes really dark between 10:00pm and 4:00am. During that period the headlights seem somewhat inadequate. Are all cars/tracks/headlights much the same in rFactor or does it vary with car/circuit?

With the above combo, it feels like they are on dipped beam.

Maybe the other thing that could help would be increased floodlighting around more of the bends.

Any experience with rfactor night driving much appreciated.

Adrian

Hi

I ran in a series that did simulated 24hour races and I too thought that the lights seemed a little dim. Like if they were on 'dim' instead of 'bright' and pointing a bit lower than properly aligned headlights do.
I got used to it though and never really gave it much of a thought after that.

unfortunatelly ...not

I have been hosting online sessions with 100% nigth (practice & race) but the absolut only mod that I can use for that is; the "2007 Endurance Touring Car Series 1.0 by SRM & DrivingItalia.NET".

The mod car ligths are certainly stronger, deepper into the horizon and wider then any other rfactor mod

Cool ... I shall certainly check out the brighter headlights mod.

And what is this about full dark practice/qualifying? I could not find any way to change the time of day for anything other than the main race?

hey adrian, please search for the post about hosting nigth sessions, I did try to search myself for the post with the instructions, but I only had one chance and coundn't find it, besides, I need to wait 15 to try again the "search" function...

u need to change all sessions "start time" practice, qualifying and race to a high amounts of minutes...don't realy remember atm, but all instructions are at that mentioned post.

if u can not find it, i'll try to help you 2 nigth when I come home.

I wish these headlight upgrades caused mismatches. It's effectively cheating.

I can see that, although for us everyone will be using it so that's ok.

So the next question is, is it possible to patch the length and width of the beam?

it is indeed, but under the situation, who cares?....all you want is that the people whom race together with you have the same stronger ligths, as adrian pointed.

and yes, mismatches will ocurre if anyone withouth the small patch enters the online session...we have tried this before.

go ahead adrian..& let me know whenever u race to join you

The headlight is a simple texture meaning it wont cause mismatches, this means that anyone who has it will have an unfair advantage over anyone else who doesnt

With the Saleen with the SCC modon Nords 2007 at about 4 in the morning it was pratically indrivable, and on Toban short around midnight and etc, at some parts it's pitch black.

I'm with The Lonely, as far as I know it shouldn't cause mismatches. It can be done by simply changing the texture as he said, but works better if you edit the .gen file to make the object the texture goes on bigger (requires more tedious texture editing, trial and error to get it lined up, check V8Factor for an example), which still won't cause mismatches. There's no need for other files to be changed, so unless that brighter headlights file changes something unnecessarily, there should be no mismatches.

EDIT - I just checked the Bright_Headlights.rar and it changes the size as well, like we did in v8factor. It says in the readme it won't cause mismatches.

The easiest way to fix the problem is to increase the track's lighting. This is possible and ensures the same visibility for all participants of an event.

so is turning your monitor up to 100% brightness then putting it up even more with nvidia control panel serves them right for not giving cars decent lights, you look at rally cars with spotters, its like driving in the day time for them.

I have not tried to host online with the fix, I suppose they'll be no mismatches, as the read me file says. However, I tried the fix with the Fabcars and it works fine offline.

One thing I noticed, the tracks where I ran the Fabcars with the fix, seem to be generally "ligther" then before....humm, this is not the point of having such fix. The tracks still ougth to be "dark" in the darkness as they were before the fix and ONLY cars ougth to have BETTER ligths. Silly to think that you will never be racing in the "nigth" but in the afternoon....'cos it never gets completelly dark as it did before the fix.

Other thing, I tried the same tracks with both cars; the Fabs fixed and the 2007 Endurance Touring Car Series with no fix...still to me, the Endurance cars seem to have better ligths afterall. I would certainly rather host the nigth sessions with the Endurance car, which is suppose to be a better adapted car for nigth racing.
