Watkins Glen 1948 - release

Before you jump down to the link at the bottom PLEASE READ THIS - it's important.
We have reports that some of the voodoo card owners can't load the track. It seems that voodoo 5 users are ok. Anything below GeForce 2 - I suggest you do NOT download this track. It seems to not work on the voodoo2 cards eventhough we haven't figured out yet why. (Maybe Snake could shed some light on that?) On the other cards like TNT etc. the framerate will be so poor that you won't enjoy driving at Watkins Glen. Maybe this would be a good time to upgrade?
This is the culmination of almost two years of work by a team of 5 with the help of dozens of others. For those that don't know anything about Watkins Glen original Grand Prix circuit, I beg you to read the included readme file. For all the others who did not download the readme file I posted on this forum, I suggest you read it also. The circuit as you receive it is an accurate representation of the roads around Watkins Glen. Width, altitude and camber where measured and used for building the circuit. The visuals represent a artistic representation of Watkins Glen in the fall and yes we took lots of liberties there. The town itself is as you see it and those that have visited there will recognize the landmarks immediately.
This effort is not without faults, there is clipping and all other evil things which crop up in GPL tracks eventhough we spend an enormous amount of time trying to limit them to a minimum. We feel it is almost at good as it is going to get but we welcome any and all who feel they can contribute with add-ons. We feel that historically this was a very important circuit in American racing history and we have tried to treat it with the respect it deserves.
We hope you will all enjoy the fruits of our labor.
You can download the 13 mb file in zip from this location thru the very generous services of Paul Jackson.

Beautiful track Arthur. This was worth the wait. Very smooth for all the detail it has. The jumps are killer the first time. A keeper for sure. This will become a very long thread in thanks. You'll deserve them all..

I'll download tomorrow or as soon as my mouse is fixed so that I could actually navigate through GPL and get to drive what appears to be a masterpiece and I'm sure is - my mouse had to fail tonight didn't it!!!

That's Watkins Glen!?! Jesus, it sure has changed alot! I think I'm gonna refer to this thing as the American ring from now on. Very challenging, I can't wait to get it right. It's just those damn jumps.....

Thanks again man, damn good job.

What, you mean like this

One beautiful track - starts off like Lime Rock - lovely curves that just flow on, one after the other - and you think ' this will be a beautiful breeze' - next thing you are mashing your car, not once, but twice on those no warning jumps. ten seconds later you are sliding across a ploughed field half a mile from the track

Right, back off to have another go (my poor Ferrari )

Thank you for this

I don't suppose I'll bother downloading a file that large, but please accept my thanks on behalf of the 90% who DO download the file but are too busy to say "Thank you".
