The main objective of the LFS - World Championship is to allow the best racers in the world to race each other, giving them, and to all mere mortals, the chance to have/watch close online racing at the highest level in LFS, showing to both newcomers and long time enthusiasts how fantastic is LFS ? online racing simulator.
As soon as the events are over, the .mpr replays will be available to download in the website to all sim racing lovers.
You can check all details here.
LFS can be just like a real sport. In our opinion it is already.
edited 28.10.2003:
After the big complains regarding the elitist nature of the championship, and after listening to the forums we decided to anticipate the pre-season only planned for the official season in January.
(the goal of the unofficial season was to test in a competitive environment the new rules system, an only then, move on with the pre-season, but if the community feel its important to broaden the presence of more racers already, we listen to it)
This brings us some timing problems, but we believe they can be solved.
Instead of the previous announced 16 racers/5 events, we will have a small test pre-season qualifying, with 2 weeks, and a season composed of 3 or 4 events (depending on schedule).
Total racers allowed in the first pre-season race: 80.
(if the number of racers willing to take part in the qualifications is higher, we may resize the number of racers allowed, depending on availability of servers and referees.
Qualification event 1 ........ 80 racers
Best 80 racers to signup get in the qualification pools.
Acceptance is made by HLVC in ONE track. The track will be discussed and voted in the forums here:
http://forum.racesimcentral.com/showthread.php?t=116698
There will be 8 pools in first round, each with 10 racers.
In each pool the best 5 racers pass to next round.
(classification of the two races of the event is added together)
Qualification event 2 ...... 40 racers
There will be 4 pools in second round, each with 10 racers.
In each pool the best 5 racers pass to the unofficial season.
Qualification for unofficial World Championship is over
The unofficial season will have 3 or 4 events.
As stated before, our goal is to help LFS, and we intend keep doing that.
We thank all the constructive critics, and we are eager to hear more. With your help, this championship will become what we intended in the first place: a real race benchmark.
From now on you can discuss all details related to the championship in the forum here:

Good idea, but I'd wish to watch the races live, like in ESL-TV. Perhaps Scawen can program his old spectator-chain idea ?

People need to know who to give fame and glory to afterwards
It'll be great seeing the battles - these races will be close and exciting.
Looking forward to seeing some results and who will be playing in the end.

Everyone can join, if you are fast enough!
Really great idea, and ACR will try to join! I just say: Go for the cup, ladies!

maybe we (i mean us and you all) should create some sort of thing similar to esltv, but free and with the help of some fast servers, who could relay the video stream.
This to relieve scawen of work other than the actual game.

One problem. Very often the fastest racers arent neccersarely the "cleanest" or good racers in a crowd...
16 players? among 10 000? we?ll...

Of all the billions of people playing LFS, you're only going pick the 16 fastest to hold a world championship?
And doesn't the world championship involve nations?

I think, you dindt understand the difference between those 2 things, do you? The rules are different etc. The Original LFS League is great, same like ESL and Endurance League. But none of them takes only the fastest drivers to sort out really the best of the best. Lets give this a shot, I think, it's a great idea to drive for the official WorldCampionship. Especially, when RSC, the Devs and a lot more people support this!

We hope that everyone interested in LFS will follow the hard fought battles on the track, even if I'm not even close to the top 16, I know I'll be watching this one close.
Who knows.. if this turns out a success, more contests can be held with more classes and a bigger attendence, e.g. with eliminator racing to find out who the top 16 will be. Thats all in the future and up to the organizers though, so please support the event (even if you are a slowpoke like me) as it will help LFS grow and get even better.
