This might have been asked before, but after a quick search I came up empty. I was wondering if it was possible to enable mouselook in this game?
I read somewhere that the line <Fidelity Unilateral Neutralizer = "0"> in the PLR file had something to do with this, but I'm not able to get it to work.

Hi.
Good question, but the answer sucks, it being that mouse look isn't possible in F1C. It works in NT2004 though.
Now if you don't mind, I would like to ask a few questions in this thread.
Can the file (whatever it is) that makes mouse look work in NT04 be taken from it and added to F1C?
If so, how please, in detail.
If not;
Is anyone working on getting mouse look, or support for TrackIR into F1C?
I really find it hard to believe the lack of interest in getting such an immersion boost like having total view panning control via head tracking into this game. There was a little interest back when SimBin was around, but after their closing, not much has been said about this badly needed feature. I don't know if it is due to players not really invisioning the great benefits and realism it would bring to the game or what, but I for one can and do see how having this ability in F1C would greatly improve the feeling of actually being in the car and driving. It would bring the game into a whole new perspective.
I know about Cymouse and that it will work in F1C, but TIR is the industry standard for head tracking devices and support for it really needs to be implemented into the game.
So how about lets get the ball rolling towards a patch? I mean after all ISI/EASports has made millions off of us with the series, so why not give something back to your customers. This is the last F1 game you will be making, at least for a good long while, so how about patching in some features we all want, including support for TrackIR? It is my understanding that a TIR unit was supplied to ISI, so come on guys lets see a patch. Please.
And no, I don't work for NaturalPoint. I'm just a user of their fine product, that has the insight to realise how much better F1C would be, if their device was supported in it.

I couldn't agree more Ferrari Driver!
TrackIR is a very nice product and the possibility to use it in F1C would make this great game even better. Native support for TrackIR might be hard to make, but surely enabling mouse look shouldn't be impossible?

hmm... these suggestions seem quite good, but i'm wondering, how can you drive and move the mouse at the same time?

That's where TrackIR comes into play. It's a device that enables view control with small head movements (uses a small infared camera that you place on top of your monitor and a tiny reflective dot). Some games have native support for it, but you can also use the TrackIR in mouse emulation mode. In this mode you can use it with any game that lets you control your view with a mouse.

adding trackIR-support to F1 Challenge wouldn't be that hard, really.
the game already supports using an analogue control from a joystick for view-panning, so all you'd need to do to "fake it", would be to have a joystick-driver that read mouse input, or better yet, the track IR directly, and exposed it as a standard (absolute) joystick axis.
I've been meaning to write a driver that could do this (and some other stuff) for ages, but I never seem to get around to it. I think there's a good chance I'll get the TrackIR2 for christmas, though. maybe that'll help kicking me in the ass.

For that sir, I would be most grateful. Once you get yours and try it out in FB, you will probably soon see how cool it would be in F1C. I want to thank you now for even just considering the possibility

I don't see how it is possible though. The look left/right view commands slews the entire view at once, not like mouselook...?

try hooking up an old joystick and assign that to look left/right.

I thought about doing this myself, but it looks like it would take two separate drivers in the XP stack. I just don't have the time to do this, or the detailed knowledge at this time, so if anyone could do this I would also be most grateful. By the way not only would this work in F1C, but also in Nascar Racing 2003. It was already done in GPL by hooking the application, so maybe we could avoid the driver implementation and do it my patching the executable. Although this would be less preferrable since it would negate using the Sierra servers with a patched executable.

Hey guys,
I'm also very interested in such a 'driver' !!
I bought my TIR2 3 weeks ago and can only use it for Flight Sim, toooo bad I didn't read this before as I purchased TIR mainly for F1C.... It would be so cool to move your head to watch in your mirrors, or pointing the apex !!
Anyway, if there is a possibility to use TIR in F1C, i'm very interested !!
Cheers,
Serge

Hi there,
Just to infrom you: I am currently working on such a driver. I got it already working on a basic level in NR2003, now I just need to add a calibration function and it will be ready for the first release . At the moment I am using the mouse-mode of TrackIR, but I already applied for the TrackIR SDK, so I can support enhanced mode. I hope I will receive the SDK soon. So stay tuned, in a couple of days I will have the release ready.

It is working fine, only the calibration is a bit of a hassle. Only I didn't have time the last 2 days to make some things configurable that are hardcoded right now. But I think I will be able to release a beta version until tomorrow. Be aware though, there will be nearly no documentation, but on the other hand you just need to configure a reset-view button and than start the utility, so there is no need for a big documentation

So you can use TRACKIR with F1C when your app comes out ?

Such a driver would be Aweseome. I wrote an article on trackIR 1 back in march i think, http://www.bhmotorsports.com/article/113
if such a driver could be "general" it would work with all games that have axis look possibility. Belive me, I lobbied hard for the inclusion for track IR in the latest F1 game, they only incorperated another device...
I hope to do a followup review on trackIR2 if it is supported in LFS or others for instance. I know the Racing legends developers has one, and so does the LFS team. Would be very nice to do a followup if this game can handle it too...

Ok guys, here it is: download
It works in all games that support joystick axis for view control. I have tested it in F1C and NR2003. Run the utility and fire up your favorit racing sim. When assigning the look function, move the mouse to the left and you are set.
Please read the supplied readme, as this utility depends on another driver that you have to download. And keep in mind: this is the first beta version. It supports only the mouse mode of TrackIR.

sounds fabolous...downloading and testing!
Is this only for TIR2 devices, not for TIR1?

Its for both, actually you can even use it without TIR at all, just move your mouse to change the view

Reason I asked really, is that I installed the PPJoy needed, but when running your driver I get error message..
maybee I am not getting it fully...
"Start the PPJoy Configure Joysticks utility, press the "Add..." button and select "Virtual port" in the "Parallel port" input box. Now cklick "Add". (done)
Copy tir2joy.exe and tir2joy.ini into a directory of your choice. (hmm ok done)
Edit tir2joy.ini and set the keycode of the TrackIR center key. (sure, done)
Make sure that in the TrackIR driver on the HotKeys tab, the Center key is NOT trapped. (done also)
But how to activate it? double click gets an error (using trackIR1)
edit, i do see your app tracking the mouse now, centering figures when it´s still) but it can´t be seen in the f1game when selecting veiw and moving mouse, it just dont see it...) still thinking I am the fool here though
Better let you all thinkering with it. If a clear solution is presented, I would be very happy! And so would many others, if I am able to spread the word

When you look into the joystick control panel, do you see a device named "PPJoy Virtual joystick 1"?
When you click on the button "properties" for "PPJoy Virtual joystick 1" and start tir2joy.exe, you should see some movement in the joystick panel.
EDIT: What error do you get?

In F1C you need to go to options and edit your axis and button mappings. Change the mapping for "View left" and "View right". Please press the "center" key before setting the axis, else they might not be correctly recognized.
