CMX to 3DS convertor by Nitemare // post your renders

hello! Nitemare made a program that converts CMX files to 3DS so you can open lfs cars 3d models in programs which can open 3ds format. bad thing is that the car you get is without materials infos so its whole white and if you want to have different parts of car in different colours/properties you have to do it manually....


so if anyone is interested in doing some renders, go on and post them here

they come with the lfs viewer available off lfs site

urm ..call me stupid but i cannot get this thing to work :/

and well tbh if i dont have java 1.2 im not d/l 100mb+ on a 56k just to do some renders

okay dont blast me for them looking crap i just spent the last hour reassembling them into different texture types. such as black plastic.. disc mirror etc. and all are just colours with reflection at best.

I hope someone can soon figure out how to assign the regular skins and then we can all start posting renders of new skins instead of having to use ingame screenshots.

hehe from what i gather the devs have allowed this to be released ..which means one more step to been able to add our own cars/tracks as we wish which isnt a bad thing imo

The CMX files only work in the lfs viewer. If you delete them from the folder, lfs will still work...

So editing the CMX files will only take effect in LFS Viewer.

Yes, it's purely an export format for viewers and so on, it doesn't really take us a step closer to import for LFS Our internal meshes that we use for game objects are a completely different format. For example, our wheels don't have a mesh at all, they are kind of live generated from a spoke and a cross-section, but i've done a special output here just for the CMX system.

Well i don't know about what the 3ds format can or can't do. But all i can say is that all the texture information is in the CMX file - what you see in the CMX viewer all came from the CMX file. And that file format is available on our site.

So... it's possible for someone to convert to other file formats and keep that information.

Great, now that someone just needs to find out how.

If it is of any help, maybe looking at the way the information is mapped in the TPTCC 3ds-files will make this process easier.
