Notepad Touring Car Legends Announced

I would like to announce that I've started working on creating a full GPL patch for Touring Cars of the 1965-70 era.
The cars to be released with the patch will be:

Mini Cooper (where would we be without one )
Lotus Cortina
BMW 2002
Alfa Romeo Guilia GTA
Ford Anglia/Escort (Anglia probably)
Lancia Fulvia coupe
Volvo Amazon/Fiat Abarth

Big bangers will come later!

Now, I know a lot of people would most probably laugh or even weep at thought of all this being possible, but it is. I have already managed to get a cortina into the game as an actual car, BUT, it took off and crashed. I'm close to fixing however, now it just rolls over as soon as you turn the wheel. If you have pictures or sites of the cars listed above (except rally trophy), please post or let me know.

I intend on creating various addons to go with it, i.e. BTCC .ini championship file, european .ini championship file, a new ai (I might need help when the time comes) and a background for car selections etc.

The Progress of the Lotus Cortina.

Currently windowless (driving from inside is a bit hard at present)
Variety of paintjobs acheived inc. red and gold livery
Wheels have been moved to suite car
Driver has been moved to the right
Wheel data needs changing enabling steering with a smaller wheel, speed of rotation might need changin to.
Currently going well then!

Any suggestions, comments, etc. most welcome
Cheers

VERY interesting but what about the physics?

And yeah, Volvo rules, especially the P1800 and the S60 with Rydell behind the wheel

Yes, but, I'm from Missouri

To say the least, this is an interesting development, padster. We'll keep watching this space for news. Good luck.

Hmmm there must be some problems with the cars feeling strange to drive. i.e. a ford escort has a 'live' or 'banjo' rear axle or whatever the hell you wanna call it. I bet a Lotus europa could be done very easily. right engine place raise the C of G and the suspension rollcentres etc

http://users.arn.net/~jdaarch/index.html

a lotus rebuild webpage

i like these cars a lot, a relative of mine has/had (not sure at mo) one for sale. he restored it about 5 years ago and it hasnt been on the road (The trim wasnt finished) he mainly drove a mitsubishi GTO then. his has twin 45 Webers and a Lumpier cam... MMMM

full restore from a new quality, rebuit chassis

Well we already have an F1 (GPL), NASCAR (NASCAR Legends), and rally (Rally Trophy) sims from this era, so a Touring Car version should be interesting. Any development screenshots?

Notepad

Hey guys. Sorry I took so long replying. Few things, firslty......PICS, being honest I haven't got any, BUT before you smash your monitor to pieces, the reason why I haven't is because personally I don't think at the stage it was at previously was worth it. If looked pretty boxy and tatty. However I have started a new model and hope to have some pics within 2weeks or so (holiday). Once again, I apollogise for the delay in photos (you guys really wanted pics didn't ya).

As I have started a new model which is looking better already, I want YOU lot to come up with some paintschemes using the template provided. Have fun! Try to make them realistic or based on actual Tourers.

I hope to be coming up with some more templates for painting as soon as I get them done. Probably the next cars being Lancia Fulvia and the Volvo Amazon.

I understand the problem with physhics of the cars but there are ways. Its just you won't have Cortinas 3 wheeling around corners. But I/WE will get it a close as possible. De-tuning engines seems no problem.

A website will be up and running, updated daily (committing myslef here ), displaying the progress.

What .3do file editors are there except 123do? I could do with another one to compare converting with.

Cheers now

I think it's going to take a long long time before it's released, though...

GPLEditor handles any type of 3do, and is probably the best for fiddling with cars.

Really looking forward to the Lancia Fulvia as I used to own one of these. Really great cars for their time and I think one of the best looking.
This will make sim racing complete for me.

Definitely sounds like Rally Trophy Legends to me, but I'll give it a shot. I love those cars.

Oh my god!!! I have been asking for a different shaped car to a F1 car for 8 months. Please please do it and show everyone that it is possible. If you pull this off we will still be playing GPL in 10 years time!!!!!

Wish I could help but my 3do skills are zilch!

Yes!!!! Touring cars!!!!

I was thinking about attempting to do a Lotus Cortina a while back but had absolutely no idea how to do it. Glad to hear that someone has had the same idea, but has decided to do it properly. The Rally trophy graphics would look really good blasting around the Nurburgring.

Can I add a couple of my personal favs to a request list??

Lotus Elan / Elite and Europa (especially the Mark 62 version, I'm an avid Lotus fan currently in the process of restoring my 87 Excel SE).
Porsche 911 RSL ( An absolute must!)
Zakspeed Capri
BMW 3.0 CSL Batmobile.

I've a feeling there's going to be a huge list of requests before long... Rover Vitesses, Triumph Dolomite Sprints, Jaguar XJ's..

Good luyck with this project mate. I take my hat off to all you modders who keep my favourite game looking fresh..

Ian.
