GPL Rally 2 will return this coming winter!!! I am looking for.....

Ideas for stages. GPL Rally was made up of all sorts of fifferent ideas. With super special, dirt tracks, mad tracks, downhill ski courses and supercross style jumps.

Now I need your ideas on what you want or even if your going to take part I would like your crazy ideas or normal ideas.

Also I am looking for some volunteers to help build some stages. Depending on how many volunteers we get depends on how many stages. Hoping to get 15 stages but if not it will be a minimum of 10 stages.

So far we have:-

Ryk who has built a 12 mile stage with 80 corners.

Rob Hunter who is building a big Corsica stage.

I will be building alot of stages as normal and I need your ideas.

So far I only really have 2 ideas buzzing around in my head.

Also this time my good friend Snake will be our Stage Reporter. Snake is going to type reports after each stage giving a report on whos were and how the stage conditions were. Semi real and semi fantasy reports.

If you think you can help out in anyway please email me.

Thanks to all the people that help me and all those that will take part.

88 corners. alot of variety, but in general the closeness of the trees and the narrow track make it seem even faster.

I have tested the track with "perfect" conditions, But maybe a bit of low grip ice/slush/snow.

Even with the track texture altered to "full snow" it feels hard to stay on the track!

Only started the track last Saturday... put in a bit of effort in places, but will it be too hard for people to learn and hotlap?

Questions.

Corner markers, brake markers.
Do you want them? - maybe an option to have brake markers... but also a "texture update" to swap the brake markers for more natural features (That the big bright Tortuga style arrows)

Great news! Dolby was my favorite from the Rally comp., followed closely by MinsKaja - so that gives you a bit of an idea of the sort of tracks I like. Anyway, I'm sure whatever you and the gang dish up will be of high quality, not to mention, a lot of fun.
Looking forward to it.

Wow Ryk! Looks gorgeous. The snowy Ring.

Madcowie, your ideas are always great!

This stage should be no problem for me, cause I visited Jasper last year. Can probably drive the whole stage from memory if I try real hard .

oh! oh!

There is a local Rallycross track not far from me, called "H?gstabanan"

Make that one, that would be so cool! The track has a HUGE jump over a hill followed by a SHARP left hander.

Really a tricky track!

That'd be too cool!

madcowie, can you make a track with a ig serpentine down/uphill
with a nice fb-list to match it(+no clipping)?
Or have you already done that?

I've not really heard much about GPL Rally before. Do you need to download anything for GPL to get these to work, or do they just work like normal tracks?

Just work like normal tracks all but you have to use the game in trainning mode only as there are no A.I files. My website has all the stages from GPL Rally 1. With us not using a.i on these tracks we could do some totally mad things. I would recommend either The Gorge or for something totally different Land Rover Test Course.

Cool

This is truly great news, MC. I had such a blast in the inaugural GPL Rally. Looking forward to more schlipin' and schlidin'. But some bad news for my fellow competitors this time 'round. I'm parking the BRM and going to try a ...

Got my sights set on ya, Rusty!

Good work madcowie, i think the longer the stage the better it is, but its gotta be something fast and flowing with a lot of elevation changes, something u have pioneered.
i have a few ideas for tracks, like you could get that cycling road course from the commonwealth games, it looked to have some very interesting corners, and maybe u could use some parts of cycling stages from the tour de france. i dunno, i like the idea of narrow roads thru alps for some reason .
maybe u could look at some maps for alpine resorts around the world and model some gpl tracks on the surrounding roads, i think it would be fun.
-jason

ps. its just gotta have jumps

Thanks. I've driven some of your tracks before but none of the rally tracks. I just had a go with the Land Rover one and Kitzbuehl, and had a fantastic time (although my Land Rover lap was somewhere around 7 minutes!).

I think a nice idea would be to make big jumps (of course!) with a downhill landing steep enough to make it a soft landing, instead of smashing down onto the ground. Kind of like on Rollercoaster or Humpback.

Hey cool Jason- another cycling fan. How about Alpe d'Huez (14km 8% climb in the French Alps)? I have quite a bit of Tour de France video from that climb that i can put together and send to Stuart if he wants. Anyway, it's great to hear about a second Rally and i guess i'll have to relearn to drive the f1's again.

Do you get the track in advance?...or is it download and run it blind? The latter would be cool especially if run online, using a voice chat program like Roger Wilco with someone to read the pace notes.

I can't wait... had a lot of fun in the first rally with you all... just my 2 cents... I'd like to see a good old fashioned hill climb... something where if you fall you fall... make it a bit tough... but rewarding... a combo dirt partway up and gravel the rest of the way would be nice.

P.S. save me a spot on the roster for Rally #2!!!

The last rally was run under a weekly format.

Each track was made, and then uploaded to a server.. then the drivers were told the track was ready to drive.

This gave the drivers 7 days to get the track and to set a single lap time, and then save the lap for later checking.

At the end of these 7 days another sage was released... and a fresh challenge.

NIKO did a very nice GPLRALLY gpl vid, showcasing the 10 stages from the first rally.

The last rally was purely offline, (Though I did a few of my laps online as it is more fun driving a track with another car on the track, and being able to watch how another driver tries to drive the same bit of track.

An "online" version would be nice, but that would need someone to run a dedicated server... Times could be set in a long practice period - with races run to suit various timzones?

Worth planning before the event anyhow!

I personally would like a nice blend of tracks for the Rally.

Each rally having it's own theme, and also them being run so that the difficulty is not too high for too long.
Also having big long stages broken up by shorter/simpler stages.

Recommend that if you are going to do a long track that you dont make slick. Too tough to learn to drive fast in such a short time.(usually about aweek)or maybe extend the drive time to 2 weeks for over 4 miles or extra slick tracks with an mid point time posts. Also madc I really liked your short tracks you have done since the rally. Those tracks made me really hunt for the tens.Last time you broke it into two rallys within one, why not do two fives with alittle break between to give us all a little breather including yourself one.

Some nice ideas here and obviously I cant do something in the exact way its ment to be. On Rally 1 the stages were built as you guys raced them so I was knocking one out every seven days. Sometimes it all got a bit much but you guys offered your support and the forum was a fantastic read.

i dont know if you raced the futurist race simulation game called POD but there are some tracks that were purely psychedelic with often a lot of shortcuts hard to find.
There was a track were you had an almost 90 degrees inclined plan curb. if it's possible to do a track like that, i 'll buy nascar 2002 .

Or a big jump over a hill like oulton park but with a very wide area to land on...

Yep, some of POD tracks were quite insane. Could fit the GPL rally quite well

Long stages follow by a small to medium one seems appropriate.

You could take a look at Michelin Rally Masters. Some of the stages in this game are thrully something (Italy in particular).

The first GPL Rally was a blast and I'm sure that MC and is crew of dedicated crazy helpers will bring another 10 weeks (or more) or pure fun and friendly competition to those who will try to become the next GPL Rally champion.

Yeah well done for mentioning it. Anyone who joins us this year please note this competition is most definately a friendly thing. Last year is more or less was all the time. Well 95% of the time.

Good news also is that guru is making us a rally track and it sounds rather hilly. If you have any special stage maps of rally courses please post them here. Preferbly the Parralel ones.

SOz I cant spel its too early

Thnx

"Oohh Rally Time!" *Neddie Thinks* Now where in the world did I leave Mum's old stopwatch?

Good on ya MC, can't wait to get started again. How about an Oval for an easy stage? Maybe more than one lap? Right , of course, leave it to a yank who knows nothing about rallying to suggest something like that!

hey, as long as it has HILLS and FAST CORNERS its always gonna be a hoot. like you know the Finish Rally stages, fast, plenty of jumps. maybe you could make a finish rally stage for GPL i reckon it would be cool. i dunno. i just like driving with all four wheels at least a foot off the ground. ( see flugpatz ).
on a more serious note you could always just drive around ur local area and find some insane hills and public roads to recreate, thats always a hoot ( see thornham )
anyways.. good luck stuart

ps.
maybe some famous public roads would be fun. like a blast around the streets of london, like i dunno, cuz im from aussie. or maybe a blast thru downtown Leeds ??? im sure u could find some roads in Leeds that we could get air on !!
