Monza 10k teaser pic

This isn't much of a teaser pic but for anyone who cares I thought I'd just say what state the project is in.

All the elevation stuff is complete, most of the objects are placed except for the billboards, all the s/f objects from the papy track have been modified for use so that means the grandstands and pits area will look just like the papy version, the papy version of Monza was used as a base so each corner is identical to the papy version; and overall the list of things left to do is mips, AI, cameras, some scenery 3do's, and miscellaneous.

I'd expect the track to be done probably in March unless something drastic happens. And when the time comes, I'll post some actual screenshots of the track so you all can see what it really looks like. Anyway, just thought I'd let everyone know how things are going if you're interested.

Jesuschrist!!! Awesome! You must have used huge trace distances for the oval infield. Track porn!

Except for Le mans, I can't think of a track I've wanted to drive as much. You go, John!

John,

great to see you also put the chicanes in meanwhile.
Can we drive through them?

Wow!
Looks awsome!.. This is the one i've been waiting for!..
Monza has some great history and i've been waiting to drive the complete track for ages! Sure the Milano track was cool and great for online battles but i always wanted the real thing.
Please don't make it "online friendly" .. make it real and authentic!..

Here's a pic showing paradis for people with gasoline in thier blood

Thanks for the kind words guys.

Oversteer - the infield stuff could be either done as part of the gtk or with 3do's. I haven't decided yet if either one makes any difference really.

Joe - yeah, the chicanes can be used but I have no idea why anybody would want to They're really slow and basically ruin all that's good about the classic Monza. But again, if you really want to...

mh - oh this will not be online friendly at all I'm sure there will be the traditional Curva Grande pileups. Although, papy did forget to put in the braking markers that really did exist so maybe not as many people will enter the corner maxed out in top gear. And even though the banking isn't near as wide as Milano, it's still perfectly easy to pass people on it. As long as nobody has thoughts of going three wide, it's quite easy.

sethro - more screenies in due course. None of the mips are done to a level that they should be. They're just placeholders right now. So I'm not willing to post actual pics until it actually looks worthwhile, sorry.

Milano was more fictional. The banking was wider and had a different angle of inclination than the real deal. In reality, you'll probably only be able to run single file through the banking. Maybe 2 wide if you're good.

So what you are saying is that Milano had fun factor built in at the expense of historical accuracy.
Fair enuff I reckon

To Jojo, bernie & MRC_Ascari the thing you want Can be done, But! it has the Big problem that Objects will bleed trough other objects and walls.
So graphically it wouldn?t be good and your PC would probably get a chock of the amount of Objects shown at the Loop (S/F & Pit) straight.

But how the Far away future shows no one knows, maybe the problm will be fixed, somehow.

I think the problem is that to show the things you ask would mean that the program would have to "think" about things that were 4 or 5 km ahead of you, rather than a few hundred metres at most. This is presumably beyond the capabilities of present day processors (without an enormous frame-rate hit).

To make the cars visible would mean implementing a HUGE view distance on the order of 5km or so. Now besides the fact that the fps would probably suck, GPL has a tendancy to crash when the view distance is that high anyway. So the answer is probably no, the cars won't be visible. It's just a technical limitation to GPL that cannot be overcome at the moment. Just for the hell of it, I will look into it though. But I'd rate the chance of success as 0.1% so don't hold your breath
