Momo Racing: is it a lemon?

I bought a Momo Racing wheel last month. (not the old red Momo Force - this is the newer, cheaper, black wheel). After about three weeks of use, the right shifter paddle became unreliable - sometimes it would shift, sometimes it wouldn't. Nothing seemed to be broken; the little switch inside would click normally, but it wouldn't register in the game. So, probably some kind of electrical flaw rather than mechanical.

Anyway, I exchanged the wheel for a new one at the store where I bought it. I could do this because I had had the wheel for less than 30 days.

After a week of use, the new wheel developed the same problem as the first wheel - the right shifter paddle would intermittently fail to work.

So I have had two Momos that developed the same flaw in a very short time. I haven't been using them roughly or mistreating them in any way, and in any case, no parts seem to be broken, it's just that the switch doesn't always switch.

Is this a common problem with these wheels, or have I just been incredibly unlucky? The 30-day period has passed now, so if I return the wheel I will have to ship it to Logitech. Also, I wonder if they will think something is fishy if I return two wheels with the same problem within such a short time.

Any thoughts?

where do you live?

because a wheel that only lasts say 6 weeks is not fit for the perpose it was designed for and a reasonable person should expect it to last a lot longer, therefor the shop is leagally bound to replace it under the sale of goods act.

there is possibly another reason though, it might be a biult in booby trap, in GPL the paddles are not for changing gear but looking left and right; hence the seperate shifter. if you use them for changing gear you are putting undue strain on them and they will fail.

Or a third reason the wheel is a piece of ****e

Oh boy me to and i was just going to post this when i saw yours.
I bought mine 3 days ago and on day 2 I started a race in Vroc hit 2nd gear and nothing. I am using XP and found it was trying to install new hardware in the form of a HID Mouse. This I found interesting because I also had a logitech cordless keyboard and mouse on my system so didn't need another mouse and now also had an unknown device highlighted in my system information/Hardware/Device Manager with the flag up. I traced it to a LHidFlt2.sys driver file that it wanted. Anyway to make a longer story shorter I phoned logitech and seems they think my version of this file is corrupt and I need to get it from MS. Which I had already spent ages trying to do. Seems XP shouldn't have wanted to install anything so i'm a little suspicious that if my driver has been corrupted it may in fact be logitech software doing it. I remember MS bringing out the sidewinder precision and it wouldn't wotk on half the computer around because only one make of usb controller had been tested.
And Im in Canada and bought the wheel here but logitech's site says the wheel is not available in Canada and so has no software for it listed. GEEEZ

Lorne, without rembering any exact threads, I can assure you youre not the only one with this problem... I dunno how widespread it is though, and I'd guess having to fail in such short time is unusual!

Man, I gotta go look for a spare Momo force

This seems to be a common problem
My Momo Racing has just developed the same fault. In control panel /game controllers /Momo racing /properties, the right paddle light (yellow highlight) is ON all of the time.
I've had the wheel less than three weeks- back to the old red LWFF now.

While I'm using Win ME, not XP, the HID (Human Interface Device) was a necessary driver to have installed to get my Logi working years ago. I've changed machines a number of times and have sometimes forgotten to install this driver, and spent time scratching my head tryin to figure out what was wrong.

I now have an optical mouse and see I also have this HID mouse in the Device manager.

Perhaps XP puts both in together, in any case, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Good Luck

same happened with me. I'm on my second Momo now. When returning my first Momo at the Shop, I saw it was two persons (me and a other guy) where the right paddle needed to be exchanged.

My new Momo is one week old and I just can hope. Logitech really got it Major Wrong this time. Production failure.

Interesting to see so many with the same problem - I wonder why the right paddle is susceiptible and not the left. I'll call Logitech tomorrow and see if they can help. If it's such a common problem maybe they have worked out some way to fix it. If not, I will try to exchange it at the retailer again, but they probably won't do it now that it's over a month. In that case I will have to return it to Logitech and eat the shipping

Its just incredible that Logitech thought they could replace the MOMO Force with the Racing. I've had a Force now for about 5 months and (touch wood), the performance has been absolutely faultless. I think its about time that Logi wheel users started to tell them how good the Force is and that this is the wheel we want, not the Racing.

Hi guys,
had a strange Problem with my Momo Racing yesterday.
Was driving Honda in Kyalami and felt very slow on the
straight just 260kmph. I thought Honda is slow , but like this?
So i went in the Profiler and changed Axis sensivity to 75%--
and immediatly in had 300Kmph on the straight.
Before i had 50% default value.
Cant explain to me what happend because i didnt change
anything before.

I saw in another thread somewhere that the brake pedals sometimes sticks on some Momos. Maybe that is what was happening?

No,it was the throttle that didnt react right.
In the Calibration-window the reaction of the throttle was
very slow.
But now everythings running fine.
Just wanted to tell about the experience.

change wheel and pedal sensitivity in the profiler at the bottom left corner. Click the choice you want, and go to axis properties. this gives you the slider window.

I have had the same exact problem. Only mine occurred after a week apart.Bought mine the monday before xmas, second the day before new years, the third had a rough spot when turning and the left switch started to stick. Now on number four everything seems to work good after 2.5 weeks and all have had the annoying centering problem including this one.Im just hoping this one is okay.

Just quickly to add my name to those who have had the right-hand paddle shift fail - mine is probably after no more than 8-10 hours total use.

Update: The retailer accepted my return, so I am now on my third wheel. We'll see if this one lasts any longer.

I spoke to Logitech customer support this morning - according to them, Logitech was unaware of this common problem with the shifter paddle. The particular rep I talked to said that it was his first complaint about that product, which hasn't been out long. Now that they are aware of it, it will be interesting to see what they do. If the problem is as common as it seems from this thread, I wouldn't be surprised if they pulled the product off the shelves and take some time to re-engineer it.

What killed my Racing was that the optical sensor for the wheel started slipping - if you turned the wheel sharply, the sensor didn't register it and the car carried on in a straight line.

On the other hand, I am on my second Force as well!

Well I have to laugh, mine lasted like 10hrs as well. It was so sweet for the first few while my buddy was over that he left and has just informed me that he got one to. Good in a way because im hooking his onto my system tonite just to see if the problem is in the paddle itself or with the software which is what I suspect.

I've had mine for 3 months and have had no complaints about it. Of course I use the shifter instead of the padels, but anything is better than my old formula T2 that steered to one side.

Yeh, i forgot about that.... on my first "Momo Racing" wheel the accelerator would not reach it capacity (100%). I first started to notice it when I was leaving the pits and I'd slam the accelerator and 1st gear would not spin!!!

So annoying.. the only thing I can do is keep returning it to my local store until they run outta stock or stop selling them.

Might shoot off an email to Logitech aswell

I have the same problem. 3 days after I received it, the right paddle stopped working. Though, in my case, there is no click, nothing.
