You need to get GPLSA and move the driver's head backwards about 0.25m.

If I move the head back doesnt that defeat the purpose of editing the FOV?

It could be possible to add a central mirror to most of the cars by editing the 3do (Not very authentic and not needed if you can see the side mirrors - would affect fps if you had 3 mirrors)
If one had any experience with GPLEditor they could add a node(flavor5 coded to the mirror offset) in the cockpit tree root (if there was a spare empty node) then add a mirror poly above the dash using four new points.
Would probably need to be set for different FOV's too.
Not something that I would release for general consumption though - too many variables (FOV settings - drivers head height etc.) to make a standard model.

Brandon the FOV is the view angle moving your head only changes the point of origin for the view angle. They are very different and separate in how they affect your field of vision.

No, just as sitting in the back seat of a car while looking through a telephoto lens does not turn it into a standard lens.

You could also use GPLshift (from GPL++) to get the mirrors in view as it allows you to zoom in and out. It's a little complicated to get sussed but when you do, it's really good. I use this in conjunction with a FOV of 55 deg. The other advantages are that the pitboards remain visible and you can program Shift + R and pause/replay/resume onto your wheel buttons. Hope this helps.

Alan, I thought that mirror arrangement only worked for Glide/3dfx/voodoo users...

I REALLY want this overhead mirror, like Alan suggests.

Did you actually manage to get it done Alan?
If you have, could you post the 3do as an example and some pointers as how to what exactly was added, so we could do the "fine" adjustments ourselfs?? Please

Now I wish I was a 3do edit guru... willing to learn just for this though.

cheers,

Frank

OK, it took me a whole day, but I managed to do it:
An overhead mirror on my braby

I learned a lot about editing, was interesting...

Now I can use FOV (without moving the view back with GPLSA) and still see whats going on behind me
Additionally I can see a car that is directly behind me as well.

Its well worth the effort guys!

Well, if GPLEA allows me to post their adjusted 3do's, I will.

Adjusting for your own preferred FOV/driving position would come down to adjusting only the four points making up the overhead mirror. That would cut down the "howto" section dramatically

Nils?

I also did bruces Braby...
