screenshots how to...

Hi there,

a simple question.

I presently live in China, and recently bought F1 99-02 here in China, and the instructions are in Chinese, I do not read Chinese.

I want to know how to take screen shots in F1 99-02 challenge.

Can someone give me a run down.

In Nascar 2003 the key is Prt Sc (Print Screen key).

In F1 99-02 ?? I have no clew.

Thanks in advance. Want to take some in game photos, especially those in the Mini Cooper Mod, the Mod I found to be fascinating.

F12 saves pictures to the F1 Challenge main directory, but Print Screen also works if you go into Paint (in Windows) and paste the image afterwards.

Some combinations of graphics drivers and Anti-aliasing or Anisotropic Filtering mean the F12 pictures are blank (all black), not sure how to fix that error when it happens.

Thanks

Actually, I was playing with this mod, and somehow, I was hitting a few of the F-keys, and discovered it last night (China time). But thanks, now I know something that I can't read in the Chinese documented book. Appreciate the information.

Wow! Am awaiting the arrival of my F1C and figured I'd drop in and check this out - EXCELLENT read! I've only read the first page thus far, but WOW!

I'm a total n00b to racing - the last racing game I used was Papyrus's Indy Car Racing (MAN was that fun! ). Provided me with some outstanding info!

Now to read the rest!

Thanks!

Thanks ForthRight for the guide. Helped a bunch, as I am a newbie to F1 Challenge and F1 racing in general. Alot of good information was put down in writing very well.

Thank you for the comments about the guide. I'm glad it's still proving useful to people.

I'm running MS SideWinder Precision Wheel(non-FFB). I'm a heavy Nascar Racing 2003 sim'er and do not have a problem with using this wheel in NR2003, however I have found a common problem with other games. In F1C 99-02, I've selected my wheel, set my steering, pedals, to the buttons. But when i go to run the car, the second i just nudge or tap my gas, i'm at FULL throttle, and have just barely hit 2% of my pedal's distance. The same goes for my brake and my steering left/right, i just move my wheel not even an inch and I'm turning full left/right. I thought there was a problem with the wheel so i jumped in NR2003 and everything was normal. I caliberate in game, go back into F1C 99-02 nothing has changed, still doing it. There is no "ingame" Caliberation and I have tried both 100% and 0% on the steering and pedaling sensative settings, but there is no difference. I've tried GTR and get the same effect. My wheel only works correctly in NR2003, at the moment that i know of. Can anyone help me with this? One note, F1 on this same wheel, worked fine last year, but after reinstalling the game i can't get it to work right again. I'm now using SP2 and Directx9.0c....

Thanks
Josh

I guess it's a common problem. All you should do is move the steering wheel full left and right a few times (2 - 3 times) and the same with throttle and brake. This way, the game calibrates the controller automatically; it doesn't matter wich menu you are in, or even the start of the race.
This calibration lasts until the next restart, but I got used to that and when I start the game, I do this trick by instinct , and I have no problem.

I believe that anyone who had or has the same troubles or my wheel are gonna love this!!!! I uninstalled my wheel's software and unplugged and plugged it back in, on a pure dumb luck idea. I went to the control panel/game controllers. WinXP sees my wheel. I hit properties, and there is a damned Caliberating button sitting there. I do the caliberation, open up GTR and the wheel works like a charm!! I can't believe the dumb luck on that idea. See there is no caliberating in the wheel's software, so i just let winXP do it's own "generic" caliberation. OMG I hope this helps anyone out as well!!! Thanks to all who help me "get inside" my own head and try "Dumb Luck" stuff

Normally it is changed through Windows - 'Control Panel' - 'Game Controllers' - 'Properties'.

However it depends which wheel you have.

Split axis (also called separate axis) just means the pedals will work independantly, in other words they will each be assigned their own axis in the games. This means you can use both pedals at the same time - if your pedals are set to 'combined axis' (the opposite) you will only be able to use one pedal at a time because they cancel each other out.

Okay, I will assume you are using Windows XP.

Click on the Start menu (in Windows) and under 'Settings' you will see an option for 'Control Panel'. Click on that and it will bring up a window.

In that window there will be lots of icons - find the icon called 'Game Controllers' and double click on that.

This will bring up a new window with your game controllers listed (your wheel and any other joypads or joysticks you might have). Click on the 'Logitech MOMO Racing wheel' to highlight it, and then click on the 'Properties' option in that window.

This will bring up your wheel calibration page, and you should see an option called 'Settings' on this page. Click on 'Settings' and it will bring up your wheel settings page.

Assuming you have the correct drivers installed for the Momo you should see an option which looks like this,

"Pedals reported as, Combined axis" and there should be a box which is currently ticked.

You need to untick that box, and now your pedals will be on separate axis, which is much better for driving sims.

I have the exact same wheel as you, and this definitely works, so it should be the same for you.

I hope it helps.

ForthRight.

Hi

Just returned to racing sims after a long hiatus, buyed a MOMO and reinstalled GPL and F1CH (Have buyed 20+ racing sims in my life, but you gotta concentrate in no more that two-three or it is impossible to master them). Then I found this guide and wanted to drop some lines to give a big TAHNK YOU to Forthright for being generous enough to share his effort and type this 27 pages long master-class. I'm not a 100% novice to set ups, mechanics, driving and such stuff, but you always allways can learn something from others, and in this case it's been not just something, but a good bunch. Usually the only driving aids I use are auto shifts (In open wheels, because they go too fast, but not in other cars where I can keep pace with the car's speed) and high camera (TV-Cockpit), but this guide has decide me to explore the world of full realism and go for manual gears + cockpit view!

I do not race much with F1 cars since long, as I like much better Champ Cars and Indys (Buyed F1Ch just for the purpose of installing the old ChampCar03 mod and the Open Wheel Oval Racing Mod, and now CCC as soon as I can download it), but sure this guide will be equally useful.

BTW the link to the set up guide in the first page is dead, though I found it later in another page of this same thread (Loooong reading!!).

Finally, wanted to add a comment based on a quote of Kenny Roberts Sr. (500cc bikes world champion) that I have used many times to a good effect -probably because of not being myself a top driver- and can help when taking compromises in setups/driving style: "In mixed circuits -the majority of them- your times will improve when you are able to go faster on the faster turns. Changing your setup to gain some tenths/hundreths of second in the slow turns and driving flat out around them, will never be as useful as doing it with the faster ones, where you carry much more speed"

Cheers!!

but then I also have a question:

I have the MOMO wheel (the black one) and when I turn on the separete axis thing, the pedals start "working like buttons", In other words you have to choose from having 0% throttle and 100% throttle. do you understand what I mean, and is there someone here with a solution?
This was 2-3 years ago, but i don't feel liike reading 7 pages of this topic, so here is what i did e+when i had that problem. If in controls acc and braking are set to SO axis, redifine it to pedals, and you should have Y/RZ axis.

Btw, today i started manual shifting, i have same times as before, it's a lot fun. Can someone give me some advice, and in australia i have 1:30.607 -rh05
