Sorry bout this, but the other thread was a little disorderly.
The Track Day mod isn't a new idea... but i don't care. I just wanted real cars to drive! So gather round to see everything from mk1 mr2's, to bentley continental t's, with heaps of bmw's, ferrari's, toyota's, lotii, honda's, mercedes', and anything else i can think of!
Ever wanted to pitch an m5 up against a vanquish v12? Or wondered how a bristol fighter would handle auto-cross? Well.. i've never thought of that last one, but it doesn't matter!
Ok, ok.. enough of the hype.. the cars so far:
Ferrari 355 GTS - 3.5 megs
BMW M3 CSL - 12 megs
Once you have those cars, you will need this patch, which i will update often. It's the latest set of physics, so you don't have to re-download the whole shebang again. It's only about 10kb!
Physics Patch - Last updated: 11/12/03
Now... driving guide:
Turn ON the ABS... crank it to high. The real cars have trick 4 channel ABS which is better than non-abs systems for short stopping distances.
Go nuts!!
Slight install tip:
The cars will install, by default, into your vehicles folder, with all the f1 cars.
If you want to, make your own vehicles folder for these cars. It keeps them seperate from the f1 cars so you don't have to run private test days.
Create a new folder in seasondata. Call it TDvehicles for example. Copy these files to it from the vehicles folder:
cdb.mas
cmaps.mas
drivers.mas
vview.scn
hud 512 64.tga
hud broadcast.tga
HeadPhysics.ini
Now, to use this, you will have to make a shortcut/config.ini for it. It's 2 seconds work.
Go back to your main f1c folder, and copy your config.ini. Name it TDConfig.ini for example. Now, open that file, and change the top part so it looks like this:
[COMPONENTS]
SEASONDIR=SEASONDATA\
SOUNDDIR=AUDIO\
VEHICLESOUND=AUDIO\VEHICLE\
OPTIONSANIM=OPTIONS\ANIM\
OPTIONSFLAGS=OPTIONS\FLAGS\
OPTIONSSOUNDS=AUDIO\OPTIONS\
OPTIONSDIR=OPTIONS\
REPLAYDIR=REPLAYS\TD\
MOVIEDIR=MOVIES\
TRACKSDIR=CIRCUITS\
VEHICLESDIR=TDVEHICLES\
DRIVERSDIR=DRIVERS\
LOGDIR=LOG\TD\
SAVEDIR=SAVE\TD\
This last line alteration is optional, but advised. Copy your save folder, and paste it into itself. Rename the copy, TD. Now you have a seperate save folder for the AI setup files, your controller preferences etc!
Now for the last bit! Copy your desktop shortcut to f1c, rename it Track Day or something akin to that. Right click the shortcut, go to properties, and alter the "target" line. Add this to the end of that line:
config=TDConfig.ini
It should look something like this once altered:
"D:\F1 Challenge 99-02\F1 Challenge 99-02.exe" config=TDConfig.ini
Ok, that's it.. you're set. Have fun cubits has attached the following image(s):

I've been hunting around for models, and these are some i've found. I have authorisation from a couple of authors already, and the rest should be ok about it too.. but we'll see:
Porsche 911 Carerra Clubsport (1988)
Porsche 944 S2
E30 M3 Evo
Lotus Europa
Lamborghini Murcielago
Lamborghini Countach LP-500
Caterham R500
Honda S2000
Honda NSX Type S-Zero
Ferrari 360 modena
Toyota Corolla sprinter GTS
Toyota Celica (2002)
MINI cooper S
Vauxhall VX220 Turbo
I'm still after some big cars too, like a bentley continental T, or a good aston model (DB7, vanquish.. anything!).
Expect some screenies of the authorised cars real soon!
Oh, i've also got some new tyres for the cars, to improve the braking/accel feel, and make the lateral grip less forgiving when applicable. Also made the rear end feel more planted on both cars.

List getting better and better great work m8. Are u releasing the new psychics together with the Astra I saw in another screen somewhere??
I will have a look for those Aston martins.

Don't think i'll release the astra, as the model is appauling. I'm not sure if the modeller had ever seen one, and the "bling-bling" wheels are a tad over the top.
But it's ok, it was a good exercise in fwd car physics, and it came out quite well. I have better cars to apply that knowledge to.

Great idea for a mod!
One question. Wouldn't it be easier to make the Track Day a separate season in F1C? Or would that interfere with the physics?

shouldn't be a problem normally, new .gdb file and new carclass to go with it

Nifty little mod you got going on, here!
B.T.W., I had a close look at the CSL wheel models and they don't seem to fit your 'specified' 19" size (graphically). (The rim diameter needs to increase ~8% from its current size)
I made some changes (they look cooler in they're new, larger size) but they don't seem to appear on the 2nd highest detail level! My mistake?
Let me know if anyone wants 'em.

Geeti, the front/rear wheels need to be more different, as the rear wheels are smaller diameter overall, having a lower profile tyre:
Fronts:
Total radius: 323.5mm
Sidewall: 82.3mm
Width: 235mm
Rears:
Total radius: 317.8mm
Sidewall: 76.5mm
Width: 255mm
If you could make them fit that, it'd be awesome
Peter, i spoke to loungekid and he offered the europa, then i found out you were helping him out with it! Heheh, small world eh?

OK Cubits, I'll have a go at it tonight and hopefully upload the 'newly' sized wheels here tomorrow. (I still gotta look into the 'disappearing wheels' issue, tho )

making a season for the cars is quite easy.
Just copy for instance ur F1_2002.gdb. Then open it with a text editor and change it for instance in this:
// Game/Season Info:
Game Name = Road Car racing
Game Filter = AND: road
DefaultScoring
{
RacePitKPH = 80
NormalPitKPH = 60
Practice1Day = Friday
Practice1Start = 22:00
Practice1Duration = 60
Practice2Day = Friday
Practice2Start = 13:00
Practice2Duration = 60
Practice3Day = Saturday
Practice3Start = 2:00
Practice3Duration = 45
Practice4Day = Saturday
Practice4Start = 10:15
Practice4Duration = 45
QualifyDay = Saturday
QualifyStart = 13:00
QualifyDuration = 60
QualifyLaps = 12
WarmupDay = Sunday
WarmupStart = 9:30
WarmupDuration = 30
RaceDay = Sunday
RaceStart = 14:00
RaceLaps = 50
RaceTime = 120
}
SeasonScoringInfo
{
FirstPlace = 10
SecondPlace = 6
ThirdPlace = 4
FourthPlace = 3
FifthPlace = 2
SixthPlace = 1
}
SceneOrder
{
2002_Albert_Park
2002_Sepang
2002_Interlagos
2002_Imola
2002_Barcelona
2002_A-1_Ring
2002_Monaco
2002_Montreal
2002_Nurburgring
2002_Silverstone
2002_Magny-Cours
2002_Hockenheim
2002_Hungaroring
2002_Spa_Francorchamps
2002_Monza
2002_Indianapolis
2002_Suzuka
}
// Pitstop locations in order from front to back
PitOrder
{
Team=Ferrari 355 GTS
Team=BMW M3 CSL
}
Rename the gdb file to Roadcar_racing.gdb
Then find a nice pic on the web resize it to 106x53 and call it Roadcar_racingIcon.bmp
Go to ur Ferrari 355 and BMW CSL folder and open the veh files with a text editor and change the folowing line into:
Classes="FormulaOne, OpenWheel, road"
After this u just have to find the tracks u like to have in the season open there GDB and put in road after the filter Properties.
And there u have ur own season.

Here they are. (+/- 5mm) Just extract the files to your ...Vehicles/CSL Folder!

(Note: I also fixed the *.GEN file to take care of the "disappearing wheels". )
Hope you like 'em.

While you're at it, could you resize the brake discs please?
345mm fronts (radius 172.5)
328mm rears (radius 164)
oooh (adds new wheels for wholesome activities involving cars travelling sideways).
After some careful testing of a real world high powered rwd, i have some work to do with getting the back end to be more pliable (kind of a long faced problem since f1 2001).

Yeah, I was thinking about that (while looking at the huge 'pie plate' behind those spokes!!! )
These will take a bit longer, as the Calipers will probably need some repositioning AND resizing to make them a little more 'realistic'.
Probably have to wait a couple of days for those, tho.

a real small world
if we find a modeler to finish the car (check the Europa thread for the current problems) it could be finished quite soon, I have enough specs to ensure realistic physics
*EDIT: forgot to check my mail: Loungekid is going to finish the model!

Wheels AND Rotors AND Calipers resized (& Repositioned) to 'close' to real life specs.
Extract the ZIP to your CSL folder (replace my previous files) and have fun GEETi has attached the following image(s):

The physics update is for both cars, not just the CSL. M4driving made a mistake there.
I have new physics which are much more, err, stable, but i haven't finished with the 355 yet, just getting it to be more neutral.

ferrari 355... ...but...please dont alter the physics anymore..your latest update for this car has alrdy added 1-2secs a lap.
the physics that were in the first release are perfect. driving this car with no aids is fantastic..this is pc sim racing at it's best.
well done to you Cubits for producing this 1st rate car...
