Hi all,
I don't post much around here, but this is too important to not let you guys in on. There is a new program, F1rst, that allows the user to race online WITHOUT using Gamespy.
Go to http://www.f1rst2.com/ and download the software. It's not pretty like Gamespy Arcade, but it is MUCH better.
It allows you to chat before launching a session (like VROC), talk privately to another driver, and set up sessions for the following mods: GTR2002, BMW m3, alfa, and the turbo mod. There are many other features planned. As more great mods are released support for them will be added I'm sure.
What is great is that once a session is launched using a particular mod, a person cannot join that session unless they are using the SAME mod!! NO more F1 drivers joining your GTR races!!
A big thanks to the programs developer: dude

Hello,
I didn't have to run that registry file. The autoupdate takes awhile to finish...give it some time. I'm sure it will work

I have used it a couple of times and i like it alot ....
One problem tho ... my m8s had a hard time to get it to work when I hosted. One of them had to Abandom and then connect again. The other could never join at all.
I hope that it was something that is fixed now .... ... we'll try again tomorrow.

Well , almost cool anyways! Every damn room is password protected. I wish someone could create an online racefinder utility that did not have password protection yet bump off anyone that is not following the rules of racing automaticaly. example: Black flaged, back to your desktop!

hmmm...would be great if the updater didn't lock up, just upload the newest version to the website, would be much more convenient.

Hello,
Scott, it takes much longer than expected for the auto update. Be sure and try it again.
Remember, this is still in alpha mode guys. download it, give it some time and effort...you will be happy you did!!!

Works absolutely great for me chappy!!!! I don't see the problem other than a little lack of patience.
Besides the F12k2 and F1rs3 games will you be adding more to this? Nascar thunder 2k3 or even rallisport challenge? This is kinda like Internetracefinder for Heat and N4 demo. IRF is dying a slow death because of the lack of racing options and I'm sure we don't want to see this happen to this utility.
Spread the word.

Hello,
WWWWWHHHOOOOOAAAAA, sorry for the confusion on this. I DID NOT write this great piece of software. A guy by the name of: dude or sometimes F1Dude wrote F1rst2.
He is not as vocal about it as I am, but I in no way had anything to do with producing F1rst!!!! LOL
Dude deserves all the credit for F1rst2.
oh, glad you guys like it. Tell your racing buddies to try it out.

I got it working, I guess you just have to leave the updater on for a while, it looks like it just froze, but it really hasn't. Haven't tried it online yet, but I will tonight.

Oh yeah, you didn't have the Assen track. I remember you.
Assen can be found at simmods.com

It seems as the probs with my friends is solved, probably there were something wrong with their installed OS.
F1rst2 worked just fine with at least one of them.
I just wish there were more ppl that use it. To bad there's two places, it makes us divided.

The update is about 1.5MB so on a regular modem it could take a while.

Yes - I had this problem. It seems to be a binary file rather than a text file (is it from Win 2000/xp regedit?). Doesn't work in Win ME.
I opened up the file in NoteTab Lite (good text editor which can open binaries too) and did several find/replace actions to remove all the extra characters. I then looked at one of my own exported .reg files and pasted in the the first line, and checked to make sure the format matched up.
After I saved it (with a new name) I ran it and it worked fine.
In fact, to save people the work I'll attach it here. Don't blame me if it stuffs up your registry - USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. I suggest doing a full backup of your registry files first as a precaution. If you don't know how to do that then DON'T use this file
Cheers.
