Track of the Month Anniversary Competition - Let's celebrate its 1st birthday
Hello world,
with the end of the actual election ToM completes its first dozen and at the end of the month we celebrate the 1st anniversary of ToM. I want to invite all of you to celebrate with us during July and August with a racing competition. You can find all informations about it on the new ToM website. The competition will take place at the winner tracks of the first 12 month. It will be short 5km races with 3 AI opponents and all the racing times will be added together and will determine the champion. All necessary files can be found on the ToM website already. Official start will be July 12th and the first deadline will be July 18th. Until July 12th little schedule changes can be happen because of missing permissions. Every deadline will affect two races. The races are very short and you can drive and submit whenever you want before the deadline. I hope you join the competition. So gentlemen start your engines! EDIT: Number of races per deadline was reduced to 2. See updated schedule on the website. Thanks.

Well, one year ToM means also one year work for you. So I say thank you for doing most of the ToM work!
This competition is pretty interesting , but I have no time at the moment. I am wondering why nobody commented on this compo yet

I'm having a bit of a technical problem with the Options tool and this pre-installation. I can't get the Options tool to load the Silver, Bronze, and Gold AI cars, despite them being checked on the list. (All other cars, none of which were installed through the GR Options Editor, are fine and load when checked.) I found that the tool takes the ".drv" ending off of cars that shouldn't be loaded to not load them, but it's not putting the ending back on for the three AI cars. Where is the bug?

@SirRally
Can't say that yet. I tested both customising packs and it did well on my PC. First I had also the drivers in the options editor pack also but deleted them, when I noticed that the editor creates them by itself. Maybe that's the solution. I'll try that on a friend's computer later. @GeorgM Yes - one year - quite a long time to play a little freeware game. I hope that there's interest in the competition also. Let's see.

Sorry that it took so long. The problem seem to be solved when I include the driver files into the zip-file. I updated the website already.
If there are more questions and/or error reports then don't hold them back.

It seems like this is going to be a great compo, but i don't like the idea of 3 races per week even if they're 5 km, maybe only 2, but let's see what other people say.

Then the event would last 7 months (instead of 4)

At first thanks to Juan, who fixed the Options Tool problem. Everything you make proofs itself not before it's really used. That's for tools and tracks the same. Didn't really know if it's a bug or if I did something wrong. That's why I didn't said anything.
Now to the schedule. The only reason why it were 3 - 4 races per deadline is that I wanted to have it around the real birthday of ToM. But that's no really important reason, so according to the suggestions I change it to two races for one deadline. This way it's simular to GRASCAR: 10km per week, which is really a proven load. If we don't have more than one winner this time, we'll have 14 rounds, which means the whole compo will last 7 weeks (and not 7 months ). @MegaMenX: If I would reduce the time between the deadlines to 3 days it would be the same as the original idea. 4 races in one week.

ready for take-off
I made the last changes before the green flag waves. Schedule changes were made (T.A.R.M. and Alpes GP moved to the back) and the customising packs were updated.
next deadline: Sunday, July, 18th races: '84 Estoril, Ile De Quebec Because the June election gave us four winners, the competition will last two weeks longer. But there are still four permissions uncomfirmed, which means, it could also stay as it is. Have fun on the track.

Received submissions so far: robylu A bit few if you ask me...

Not really. In GR MotoGP we once had 2 files sent at midnight CET but by the deadline (6 AM CET) there were 7

I drove the 2 tracks, but it didn't turn out very well. I'm not a fan of damage etc. Also I can't drive very good together with other cars - they always push me...
I'm more an hotlap fan though I'm not the best - that's why I don't take part at "driving" competitions. I play GR only for fun. If I try to win a competition but then I loose - that makes me totally sad Maybe I'll submit several tracks - because I like them all

Now. I had to fiddle around a bit because I am new in the position of a comepetition manager and had to make my first steps in verifying submissions. The field grow to 4 participants. Still a small one, but the competition will run as long as there are submissions. Both rounds were won by you, robylu. Your lead in the championship is 1,343 seconds large. The race at Estoril saw a fight between you and GRspeedster for the win, while at Ile De Quebec I could get a bit closer to you two. Full results can be read at the ToM website. Next rounds will take place at Nov8 and Arente. Allthough the deadline is next Sunday I will not be able to check the submissions in time, because I want to visit my parents. If you want, and I think we are so flexible because of the small field, we can move the deadline to August 1st, which would mean that there are 4 races to submit Sunday in two weeks. I would need the confirmation of all participants. If not, the deadline will stay as it is, but the results will be published a week later. NOTE: It's still possible to join the competition.

For me there are no problems to delay the date of the submission.
More time to race. |

I think the time for the deadlines should be moved back a few hours - midnight your time is about 7pm my time, so a later deadline gives more time to race (even in GRASCAR, with midnight Eastern Time deadline, there are still a few at-the-deadline submissions).
Just a thought. I'll try and get the next race files in soon...

Hmm, well. I just noticed that I confounded with the time zones. I didn't want to use CET. I am not that egocentric. I wanted to use GMT because I think it's the "most internetional" time. Anyway, considering that I often do my races at the evening it's probably a good idea to generally move the deadline back a few hours so maybe the people from "over the ocean" may also enter. So I think nobody will be angry when I change the time for CET to 1:00 EST as it's used in HF1. So now we officially move the next deadline (and only this one) a week. Thus the race files for nov8, Arente, Nazareth and Assen has to be sent until August 1st; 1:00 CET. The only one who didn't confirm this is ncalvertuk, who will be informed by me via e-mail. I now pack my bags and visit my parents. Expect me back in around a week, when I hopefully have to check a lot of files and also may finally release a new track.

sounds very familiar to me i've tried some races at estoril gave it up. it's frustrating to have to enter the pits in lap 1 because the AI drivers pushed me in the walls an wreckend my car. and those ~100 AI drivers are too fast for my fathers son markus ;-)
