1987 Dodge Omni

Yeah yet another 80's Chrysler Product, the blueprints I'm using seem to lack a top view so I'm going by memory of my dad's 89 Omni. Of course I do have plans to mod this into a GLHS once I'm done. For those of you that don't know a Dodge Omni was a 5-door hatchback, that had a sort of Euro-flare design in it. Here is a picture of a Dodge Omni, http://www.cee.mtu.edu/~detobias/omni_1.JPG
and the GLHS
http://www.dragtimes.com/images/1123...Dodge-Omni.jpg
of course real pictures of the car say nothing about what my model looks like, the hood is done, and most of the front door, and A-pillar, fender is at least started. Comments and such are welcome

Little bit of research does a lot of good, the Dodge Omni was based off of the Simca 1100. But it was designed by Chrysler Europe, The Dodge Omni and VW Golf are basically brothers. The Dodge Omni was sold under different names, like the Chrysler Horizon, or Talbot Horizon. of course these had a different front end and bumpers, and mirrors.
Did a little more on my Omni, added the grey parting line, or at least began on adding it, front fender wheel well is there. Added the other bar for the head light, you can sort of start to see an Omni now

indeed it does look awesome, did a little more, now theres a roof above the driver's door and most of the B-pillar. back side of the roof has been started and rear passenger door. Moved the bar for the headlight so it was at least closer to where it should be (the Chrysler/Talbot Horizon have different head lights, which is what these blueprints are for but the Omni isn't much different)

yeah the 4-door hatchback, hopefully will make the GLH-S (Goes Like H*ll-Summore). Did a little more on the model itself, and really looks like the Dodge Omni that i know of now, others might protest that its a Chrysler/Talbot Horizon. but really its all about the same lol.

Only a little bit done on the Omni today, now at least the rear fender is done, though I'm not to happy with the reflections on it(have to look into that). Also did some of the door trim. Really need to get the bumpers done so I can finish off the front end, and obviously put the head lamps and turn signals in, also have to finish some chrome trim up there. Probably will at the very least start on the back of this thing. Here's a picture

Ok did a little more work on the Omni, and found another thing thats different on the Omni as opposed to the Talbot/Chrysler Horizon, tail lights. the Omni's tail lights look a ton cooler. Ok I did actually model the exterior part of the tail lights, might make them 3d too. I finished off the bottom rear of the car. Area around the tail lights do need a little work to make it look better. Obviously I didn't do the bumpers or anything in the front. So I supply you with a shot of the rear end (insert corny joke here)

Different names for different markets, doesn't matter.
Although there was a rally versio of the Talbot and no rally-spec dodge Omni, AFAIK

Doesn't mean they didn't rally with it, plenty of GLH's and later GLH-S's were converted to rally spec'd cars.
As you can probably tell I did get the model in game and got it to extremely close (at the very least) to actual spec, and its not exactly a big car, but what do you expect from the Econo-box lol. After I got it in game I noticed I made a big miscalculation on the tail lights (as the ones in the blueprints are not Omni I had to make my own)mine were made a little bit too small.
@Skybh - what would be the purpose of showing it in white? I can understand flat shading, but white doesn't do much good in showing anything, hence why I work with red. But I'll at least show you it in flat shading,

obviously I have done some more of the front end and now there are head lights, yes they are 3d.

and what it looks like in game, obviously wheels are just there so the model isn't just floating. Funny thing is my Caravan's engine sound is actually recorded from a 2.2l Omni, so really I can get away with those sounds, if I want to.

Well it looks fine so far.
The rally version was developed by Lotus and was renamed Talbot Sunbeam Lotus, driven by the famous Henri Toivonen. you can find info here:

Rear pictures are hard to find...

Well finally got around to doing something with the model again, rear door frame and window are done, though I may re-do poly structure, and there is now a rear hatch window too, still have to put on the 3rd brake lamp though, obviously still have to do some other trim work and the turn signals, and the bumpers.

thanks, I did fix the normals on the bumper, well sorta at least, and put in the rear bumper (which is basically the front bumper), Add the driver's window, and put in a texture thats at least temporary for the tail light.

Introducing the 1987 Dodge Omni and 1986 Shelby GLH-S (would be 87 as well but that year was based off of a Charger)

I think I finally figured out why the rear bumper looks so odd to me, its because the bumper is not thick enough, will fix soon enough though. I haven't decided which #GLH-S I will go off of either all I know is it will be black with a grey interior

Ok little more progress, I guess, decided upon which #'d Shelby the GLH-S would be based upon and my choice was #126 (cardomain page: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/632619) and after making the power changes I blasted the little car into a 12.8 second 1/4 mile at Martin Raceway which is about on queue with the real thing (which is a 12.9). Might need some help on the texture, but that won't be for a while since I have yet to even finish the body, but all I really got done today was the beggings of the GLH-S wheel which I found out today is a 5-lug, while the stock Omni has a 4-lug wheel, will get started on the stock Omni wheels asap though as they aren't to easy either
