Perhaps a better phrasing of the answer would be to say: "Yes, and it will be released under the General Public License like Linux." to indicate more clearly the fact that a finished, running product will be provide for free (which is NOT a requirement of the GPL) and additionally, that the source code will be available anyway (because of the GPL), so people will always (at least in theory ) be able to create a version of Motorsport for themselves, for free. Suggested Q/A: Q. I keep reading stuff about "GPL" in the Motorsport forum. Does this have anything to do with "Grand Prix Legends"? A. Probably not. GPL for this project most likely refers to the General Public License, which is the free software license that we'll be releasing Motorsport under.

Updated. Let us know if the phrasing still isn't correct - thanks Herko.

GPL is quite restrictive, you may wish to consider either using the LGPL or other open-source licenses or splitting the project up and licensing parts of it under different licenses. One easy example is to license the base simulation engine developed under LGPL which would allow others to use the engine in different games or projects without having to also make their project open-source too; but it still means that changes to the engine source itself would need to be published. Then the actual Motorsport game source could be posted under the GPL which makes sense as a more restricted use patterns. And of course the actual content created by others for use in the game can be distributed under their own licenses and so forth.
