Virtual Mirrors Here!

I've finally done the floating mirrors for all the 67 cars as per Alan Dickeson's instructions in this thread, but only the GPLEA's 2D-helmet version. (hope they don't mind me messing with their cars)

-As I use full zoom in GPLShift, there is a set for full Field Of View as well as the standard set.

NOTE: Works with Direct3D graphics mode, but might work with OGL too, try them out..

Make sure you have the 2D helmet version of the GPLEA cars installed and unzip to the cars\cars67\ folder. Enjoy.

[edit] Mirror position and size can be adjusted as described in post nr. 4

[edit] The mirror for the Honda RA300 can be found in post no. 40. The one in this post is for RA273.

[edit] -Get the new Lotus 3.1 mirror in post no. 38 if you sit high in the cockpit (using GPLSA, GPLShift etc) and can't see the bonnet.

[edit] Mirrors for the 65 cars are now available and can be found in post number 22 !

[edit] Mirror for the new 65 Lotus 33 is now out and put together with the 65 set in post 22.

[edit] Mirrors for the 69 cars are now available and can be found in post number 47 !

[edit] Mirrors for 69 mod part 2 in post 57

[edit] Mirrors for 69 mod part 3 in post 66

[edit] Mirrors for 66 mod in post 82

(As I can't attach more than 5 posts to a thread, the newer mirrors are spread all over the thread, sorry about that..)

You need GPL Edit (GPL Track Editor) and a quick how-to:

Your guide was great. Thanks a lot, know I have only one little additional question

If you look the picture, the mirror shows just the same as my mirrors + what happens behind me. Is it possible to strecth the mirror as wide as your screen is so that you could notice what happen right next to me. This would be very helpfull when trying to avoid collision in thight race. Or is the mirror at its maximum showing width.

edit: forgot the picture

Yeah, shouldn't change the X-value as that just sets the mirror in the cockpit viewing pane.

I know it would be superb if the mirrors could be set to a very wide field of view, I just don't know if it's possible.

ps: I have added a mirror set for standard view (no zoom) in the first post.

Because of the closer racing action in the 65mod, this would be a great 65mod addon.

Thanks Runar

I hear some comments in VROC people don't like to see the mirror moving. If so, try stretching the top beyond the picture even more to dampen the 'floating' effect.

I've run these mirrors for about a year now and noticed no effects on performance whatsoever. In fact with FOV the machine should run even lighter drawing only 1 picture as opposed to 2 seperate like it was with Smiley's 'glide' version before.

Notice absence of blindspot straight behind with this kind of mirror.

G_Toronto, can you do that in the opposite direction, looking back from the nose of the car? Then we wouldn't need the left/right views.

I think he wants mirrors while driving in F10 view...but i could be wrong though

That would make it somewhat easier for the people driving in F10 to see whats driving behind them off/on-line.And don't go blabbering of on arcade we've heard that before

That's a good idea. It would be better than a very wide FOV to avoid stretching and bluring, but I don't know who beside Kaemmer&co could change the viewpoint of the mirror. (GPLEA?)

It would be absolutely great to get rid of all the blindspots with a mirror like that, just think what it could do for the racing!

I'm afraid not...the in cockpit view seems to have a limit for the drawn mips e.g. it doesn't show the body off the car when you change the pov behind the drivers head. Atleast that's what i get if i change the pov with gplsa.

And i don't think that's caused through clipping

Sorry for the delay about the 65 cars, but had some trouble with it and only managed to do the Lotus and Ferrari so far but suppose it's better than nothing so...

EDIT: Whaddaya know, I just found a proggie that checked the mip-classes which sorted out the error I was having, so now all the cars are ready!

Just unzip to Sierra/gpl/cars/ (The Lotus 33 must be put in manually)

please, PLEASE, DO NOT make an add-on for mirrors in arcade(F10) view. the last thing league racing needs are people monkeying around in F10 view.

gplshift does wonders for looking around (90* & 120* are great) and looking over your shoulder is more realistic than driving from a tether behind the car with a floating mirror strapped to your forehead by invisible lines. but that is just my opinion.

Thanks heaps

One small problem is that I must have a different 65 Lotus because your 3do scrambles my needles so that they appear above or beside the guages

I drive the Ferrari most of all so that's no biggie

That's weird, never had trouble like that.

Of course this is only for the 2D-helmet version which I suppose you are using?

Notice I managed to do all the 65-cars now!
