My "Revived," MicroSim Racebase RC6 MkII build.
Step one....registered for and recieved the plans, then printed them out on the 24" plotter at work.
Step two...Go to "WoodCraft," retail store and get nessessary hardware... Step three...put together tiled plans from the plotter and hang on wall to keep 2yo daughter from steping on them...lol. Tomorrow is off to Home Depot or the like to get the MFD and then heat up the garage and start cutting! |

LOL, I'm way ahead of you. Got my plans on the 25th, downloaded adobe acrobat, tiled the plan , printed, taped together, and today my son and I went to Home Depot and got some MDF along with some baseboards for the bedroom(it's been 2 years). I promised my wife I would do the bedroom first...but...I started playing around in the garage and...8 hours later...I can say that all the peices are cut out and test fitted together. It looks and fits great. I took some pictures and will upload them tomorrow when I am more awake. I am not totally sticking to the plans. I am changing a few things. Can't wait to hook the G25 up! Big thanks to Jeffrey!

WOW a need to compete at the completion of the cockpit, now that's funny.
I've got to fix the tail light on the Yukon before I get to work in the shed today. The wife has been pulled over twice now (most recently Tuesday night), warning both times. She's a little less than pleased with me. |

Materials purchased today...
1x 4x8 sheet of 5/8" MDF.........19.99 2x 2x4 sheets of 1/2" MDF........ 9.95 ea 1x scrap sheet of 1/8 MDF.........4.25 Various Nylon spacers and washers I got most of the parts cut out and the main holes drilled today. I didn't get to the cross holes, but I do have a dowling jig for that. I used the entire 2' width of the heavier MDF for the "Ultra Wide Body," model. Jeff and I had talked about how to integrate the G25 shifter...I think I should have enough room doing it this way. My other goal is to get one of my spare VW Recaro seats in there in the future. We'll see. If I would have gotten an earlier start on it I would have prob. been able to do a test fit, but I'm meeting up with the VW / Audi club tonight and had to cut it short. Sorry but real cars come before simulator cars...lol. I was also planning on working on it tomorrow, but I got a call from a buddy with a FREE 50 yard line row 15 ticket and tailgate to the Packer game tomorrow. For those of you not from WI...it's a mortal sin to turn down a Packer ticket...especially a free one! So...looks like I'll get back to it on Wed. night or so. Jeff...I have 3 holes marked E on the Quadrent spacer....there is no mention of what size to drill them out as. Do you know? Last edited by A2WolfsburgGLI; 30-11-2008 at 01:18. |

These holes are for wood screws ~ 12mm in length, to affix the quadrant spacer to the quadrant. Just need to use an appropriate bit to drill a pilot hole, 1/16" should do. No need to drill all the way through the Quadrant

I would just glue the spacer to the quadrant, which would eliminate the need for screws and make the finished product look even cleaner. |

Finally had the opportunity to get back to the Race Base tonight. Too many hobbies I guess.
My thoughts so far....Love the design. it's well though out and good looking. Fairly easy to build from someone thats got a little wood working experience as a kid...but I haven't built anything this big in 15+ years. The Knock down hardware....mostly a BIG SKIP. You do not need it for anything other than the mounting areas for the leg section. Even if you want the adjustability...I see it being more of a PITA to manipulate than just having a screw driver handy with wood screws. So here it is so far...I fit inside it very easily. Elbows inside the cockpit, which is what I was aiming for. There appears to be room for the G25 shifter if I go a bit off center with the wheel and pedals. I should be able to get the fitting done tomorrow night...then I'll do some customizations I've been thinking of and then sand her down and get ready for paint. |
